“A good leader inspires people to have confidence in the leader, a great leader inspires people to have confidence in themselves”
A Quarterback is usually the unquestioned leader of a football team. When Dan Marino retired, the fins for once in a long time lacked a strong leader, many tried to fill his shoes, (Huard, Fiedler, Griese, Lucas, Feeley, Frerotte, Rosenfels, Harrington, Culpepper, Green, and Lemon) all failed. Some can argue that Jay Fiedler was the best of that list, I beg to differ. Fiedler’s inadequacies were masked by a strong ground game, when that ground game disappeared his true leadership ability showed through.
How long did Marino direct the Fins to victory without a ground game, virtually his entire career. Who knows what he might achieved if the Fins had a great back, we might have seen a Superbowl victory maybe more. It worked for Elway.
