East On Fire! posted on 10/08/2008
The eastern divisions have proven to be the class of the NFL through the first five weeks. Even though the NFC East has 3 more collective wins and one of two undefeated teams in the entrie leauge, the AFC East is the only division in football with all four teams at .500 or better. Yes, the Dolphins and Jets who combined for 4 wins all of last year already have 4 combined wins just through a quarter of their schedules. The balanced division of last year in the south is not looking too good right now. The Jags and Colts have both stumbled out of the gate, and the 5-0 Titans have not beaten a team that is .500 or better. With Tom Brady out for the year, the divison is a toss up, and it is quite possible that three teams out of both of the East divisions are still playing come January.

Charging Forward posted on 10/06/2008
The Wildcat formation proved to be useful again, the Dolphins used it 11 times and scored the decisive touchdown on a play where Ricky Williams threw a block to allow Ronnie Brown to run it in untouched. However it was the defense that won the game for the fish, holding San Diego to only 202 total yards of offense. What was more impressive was a goal line stand where the Dolphins stopped LT from the 1 yard line on a fourth and goal. After that the Chargers never broke the Miami 40 yard line. Joey Porter has the defense fired up since the Arizona game, allowing 13 points or less against the two teams who played in the AFC Championship earlier this year. The way they played yesterday reminded me of the old Bermuda Triangle of the late 90's, which in

Well it took a couple of weeks for the first win, but man was it satisfying. It would have been a little bit sweeter if Mr. Brady was the one being sacked by Joey Porter three times! This was by far the best performance in years by the Dolphins, marking the first time they put up 30 plus points since the Dolphins beat Chicago 31-13 en route to their Superbowl loss to the Colts. It is no secret that Bellicheck fears the Dolphins, In 2006 they were shutout in Miami 21-0. In 2004, the Patriots were trying to seal the number 1 seed over the Steelers, but they came into Miami for Monday Night Football, and Brady was rocked, throwing a couple of picks in that one, and dropping to the 2 seed. Unfortunately, they did not lose after that game, going on to win in Pittsburgh, and then the Superbowl over the Eagles. The point is, you should not be surprised by the Dolphins hard fought victory, the team was more physical, smarter, and all round better than the previously undefeated Pats (21 regular season wins before today). With Brady gone for the year, the fish need to set there sights on the Bills, they have proven to be a team who will fight to the end, and they pulled out a tight one against Oakland to stay on top of the East, all alone. The last time the Pats were not in first place was week 6 of 2003, and it seems the Dolphins have exposed the Pats' weakness by throwing everything including the "kitchen sink" at Cassel. I was glad to see the R n R Xpress finnally break out today, Even though Ronnie stole the show with 5 TD's, including a left handed TD pass, who knew he was a south paw? Ricky still had over 100 yards and displayed toughness through out the day, he had a nice block on Mike Vrabel during Ronnie's 60 yard TD run.

Farma Or Rush-More? posted on 09/08/2008
I must say it has been a long off-season in anticipation for the Dolphins under the new regime of Parcels and Sporano at the helm. Unfortunately, the first game felt like any Dolphins' frustrating attempt from the past 10 years, starting the game with two short runs and an incompletion. Not to mention another 3 and out on the following drive. Chad finally mustered a scoring drive at the end of the first, begin 2nd. We managed to shut down Laverneous Coles, who only had one catch for five yards, but Jerricho Cotchery for 56, come on! If you take Favre out of that game or change a couple of play calls in the red-zone, where they had two turnovers, the Dolphins would have won. Bret seems to have his swagger he has not had in the past five or six years, plus he had some sick palys, including the ridiculous touchdown pass while being taken down against the Dolphins, the overtime bomb to beat Denver last year, and the under hand flip for a first down in the playoffs (He's still great). There was positive that came from the loss though. In his debut Chad carried the passing game for 250 yards in the air, almost compensating for the dismal running attack which included 47 total yards from the R-n-R Xpress. You know the running game will pick up if they hand it off more than 16 times, because we can't win with Chad having to throw 46 passes (one attempt shy of total rushing yards). To win in this league you have to rush the ball, and the Jets proved that by getting over the 100+ mark. I cannot say I have lost any hope yet because Brady is out for the season. I hate that it takes an injury for the Dolphins to have a chance in the division, but lets face it, with Brady, the Pats would not have lost any divisional games (and few others). That means the division is a toss up, and being the only team in the division to lose week 1; there is already ground to make up. The Tuna knows what must be done, and his protege will fix these problems. One more light note, the team only committed 4 penalties; however, 2 were made by #1 pick, Jake Long, which negated 2 first downs. I look forward to the rest of the season, but for now I'm gonna go watch some tape. Be sure to tune in again next time, and in case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight.
